Jesse and I are finding it hard to believe that Jack is already 5 months old. His personality is starting to show more and more and playtime is getting to be a lot of fun. He loves to grab, wiggle, kick, roll, shriek, babble and yell, but he also loves to sit on our laps and cuddle. He's know in my moms' group as the mama's boy of the bunch. He does seem to get a little quiet around all the other babies, but when he's at home, he loves to make noise. We predict that once he learns how to use words, he's going to have a lot to say. Jack still loves to chew on things, especially his fingers, and he still spits up more than any baby I know. He already loves to watch football on TV... more so than any other type of television. We're thankful that he won't remember this atrocious 49ers season.
Milestones this month include rolling over (back to tummy first, and then tummy to back the very next day), lots of grabbing at faces, first sip of water out of a real cup, and first taste of apples and bananas. He made it through his first cold like a champ, although it was really sad to hear him all stuffed up. Our big guy weighed in at 17 lbs 9 oz and was 26.5" long at his last doctor appointment about a week before his 5 month birthday. He got a clean bill of health and the go ahead to start solid foods. He has been showing a good amount of interest in what we're eating and drinking, mainly by watching us bring food and drink to our mouths. I've given him some tastes of solid foods here and there, and we're looking forward to really getting him started in the coming weeks.
The 5 month photo session was our best yet. Jack was in a great mood and was able to sit up much better on his own this month, so he looks less blob-like a a bit more like a baby who might just tumble out of that chair at any moment. We put him in his UCLA shirt to show off his (our) Bruin pride. As you can see from picture #1 below, he noticed the cute stuffed elephant sitting next to him for the first time this month. Jack was such a goof during this shoot that I couldn't choose just one picture... in fact, I couldn't choose just two or three either. I had to consult Jesse for help and the 3 below and 1 at the top are our favorites. I've also included some other recent pics.
